Cooking from the Heart

Bags of Caring

  • Overview:

Hunger in America and all around the world is a serious issue today. Most of us have no idea what it’s like to go hungry…for a day or even for one meal. Cooking from the Heart is a team-building program that brings to light how fortunate each person in the company and on each individual team is…for many reasons.  Your group will select and contact a community outreach organization to receive all of the food prepared that day. The community outreach organization will arrive towards the end of the event to discuss their role in helping the “less fortunate” in their community and how they will distribute the food that your group prepared that day.

Here’s What Comes Next:

Making Peanut Butter

  • Your group will be divided up into teams, either by you or by our staff, whichever you prefer.

  • Each team will take a “Hunger Quiz” before the culinary fun begins.
  • Each team will choose a team leader “The Executive Chef” by majority vote.
  • Each team will produce homemade peanut butter and jelly (PB & J) sandwiches.

  • Each team will produce 20-25 sack lunches consisting of a PB & J sandwich, a fruit cup, a granola bar, and bottled water.

  • Each team will prepare two pans of ready-to-bake lasagna.

  • Each team will fill three family sacks with non-perishable food items.

  • Each team will compete in a four-part competition consisting of:

Highest Score on The Hunger Quiz

The Ultimate Peanut Butter & Jelly Challenge

           The Ultimate Lasagna Challenge

The Most Artistic Family Food Sack Challenge

  • All teams will have 2 hours to prepare their food items and family sacks.

  • They will be judged on the best peanut butter and jelly sandwich, the best looking and neatest lasagna, the most creative and artistic family food sack, and teamwork.
